The experiments described are based on a model system developed recently. Ferricytochrome c as a potential electron acceptor is trap ped in the lumen of unilamellar lipid vesicles, EDTA* as a potential electron donor added to the bulk volume and amphiphilic flavin as a mediator bound to the vesicle mem brane. However, Under isotropic aqueous conditions the bluelight-driven electron transport chain comprising EDTA, flavin and Cyt c is not significantly affected by xenon. These data call for the reinterpretation of results obtained with xenon as potential inhibitor of phototropic curvature of grass coleoptiles. which were taken to suggest the flavin singlet as active species.

Beta-adrenoceptor-mediated responsiveness of human internal mammary artery
The internal mammary artery (IMA) is currently the preferred conduit for myocardial revascularization. However, pre-operative vasospasm and a hypoperfusion state during maximal exercise may limit its use as a bypass graft. The mechanism of spasm has not been clearly defined. Since β-adrenoceptor activation plays a major role in vasorelaxation, the present study was carried out to investigate th...

The pink to light reddish-pigmented bacterium Rubellimicrobium mesophilum strain MSL-20T contains a BLUF coupled endonuclease III of unknown function. A purified recombinant triple mutated sample of the BLUF coupled endonuclease III (F5Y, N27H, A87W) named RmPAE (Rubellimicrobium mesophilum PhotoActivated Endonuclease) was produced and characterized by optical spectroscopic methods. The BLUF do...
متن کاملCurcumin Ameliorates Sertraline-mediated Testicular Toxicity in Rats via Inhibition of Oxidative Stress
Background: Sertraline is prescribed mainly for the treatment of patients with depression. However, this drug is known to have toxic effects on the male germ cells. Therefore, this study was designed to examine the ameliorative effects of curcumin on the sertraline-induced male reproductive toxicity. Methods: Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups of eight each. The...
متن کاملMatrine inhibits diethylnitrosamine-induced HCC proliferation in rats through inducing apoptosis via p53, Bax-dependent caspase-3 activation pathway and down-regulating MLCK overexpression
The proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells is one of the leading causes of liver cancer mortality in humans. The inhibiting effects of matrine on HCC cell proliferation have been studied, but the mechanism of that inhibition has not been fully elucidated. Since, apoptosis plays an important role in HCC cell proliferation. We examined the apoptosis-inducing effect of matrine on tu...
متن کاملEffect of xenon on excitatory and inhibitory transmission in rat spinal ventral horn neurons.
BACKGROUND The minimum alveolar concentration is determined in the spinal cord rather than in the brain. Xenon inhibits glutamatergic excitatory synaptic transmission in the dorsal horn neurons. However, its actions in the ventral horn neurons have not been investigated. METHODS The effects of 50 or 75% xenon on excitatory and inhibitory synaptic transmission were examined in the spinal lamin...
